The myths, magic and medicinal properties of Crassula capitella as the first plant you find entering the gates of a botanical sanctuary, are quite mesmerizing. In the winter rainfall region it is a bright green during the rain season and changes into striking red as water stress increases during drier spells. Myriads of small flowers form, hiding between the leaves with a vague scent.
Known locally as Red Flames (in Afrikaans: aanteelrosie), it is a succulent with five subspecies. This mythical plant is said to be a plant for millionaires since it will attract riches to you. The direct translation from the Afrikaans is ‘accrual rose’ .
Indigenous people made use of the roots of the plant in powder form, to heal wounds (Maroyi, 2014).
As recently as 2018 some Egyptian researchers found Cc containing abundant phenolic compounds such as Kaempferol, Quercitin, Bergenin and more. Best of all Crassula capitella was found to resolve chronic inflammatory diseases such as Rheumatoid arthritis through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and membrane stabilizing mechanism in rats.
